I am actively involved in education and outreach at Penn State. I have helped organize Penn State’s “Bug Camp for Kids” for the past two years. During the camp, I have taught students about what insects eat as well as collecting and identifying insects. I have also coordinated educational programs at local elementary schools where I organized volunteers and presented lessons about insect biology and life cycles that included opportunities for students to interact with live insects. I am also involved in organizing the Penn State “Great Insect Fair”, where I have coordinated the butterfly tent exhibit for the past four years. These experiences have been incredibly rewarding as many people, both young and old, are curious about insects and happy to learn more about them. I am very committed to science outreach and education and I plan to incorporate science outreach and service into my own research program.
